Leadership Fort Wayne
Leadership Fort Wayne is a classic example of getting what you put into it. The more you put into LFW, the more you get out of it. The more time I invested in practicing the leadership techniques our class discussed, the more they became ingrained as a part of my standard approach to positions of leadership I find myself in. The class also helped me develop a sense of what my personal mission is, and helped me identify those areas that are most important to me.

Application Criteria to Qualify

The applying organization should:

  1. Be a non-profit organization and show proof of status.
  2. Submit youth-generated projects and proposals. Projects funded by YAR are those done by youth and not by agencies for youth.

The proposed project should have:

  1. Youth involved in every part of the project: planning, developing a budget, writing the proposal, executing, and evaluating the project.
  2. High visibility of youth working on the project, and of possible, involving the media.
  3. Youth providing direct community service that meets a community need.

Apply to Youth As Resources (YAR)

The grant application should include:

  1. A detailed budget. Everything needed to complete the project should be included. Monies may not be used for stipends, salaries, or the purchase of large equipment such as VCRs. Not more than 25% of the amount requested may be used for training or workshops. Reasonable recognition and a form of appreciation for the volunteer work done by the youth may be included. This can include T-shirts, food, or certificates.
  2. A project timeline to be completed within six months of the grant allocation.
  3. Goals and objectives for the project.
  4. A clear statement of youth and adult responsibilities for the project.

Additional Considerations:

  1. Two groups may work together, or collaborate on a project.
  2. All grants that meet the requirements are considered on an equal basis.

Submission of a grant that meets all the requirements does not guarantee funding. the decision to fund or not to fund, or to adjust funding in certain areas is made by the Youth As Resources Grants Council with consideration given to the range and diversity of all the projects submitted, number of requests received, and amount of grant monies available.
